Killer 'Whales'

As we come closer to the end of our Volume 55, Issue 4 winners, we would like to reveal the answer to our trivia question!

Q: Killer whales are often thought to be whales because of their name, but what kind of marine mammal are they actually?

The answer is...a dolphin!  Killer whales (Orcinus orca), along with 37 other aquatic species, are classified in the family Delphinidae!  They are the largest member of this family.

Congratulations to Brooke Pietrafesa of Cornell University for answering our question correctly and winning the trivia contest!  Check out our newest trivia question on our 'Call for Submissions' page!
