SAFOSO Offers E-Learning Epidemiology Course to SAVMA Students

SAFOSO, a veterinary consulting company based in Bern, Switzerland, would like to offer their 'Epidemiology for Non-Epidemiologists' E-Learning course to SAVMA students!  Please take a look below for additional information provided by Dr. Carla Stoffel, a SAFOSO consultant and Tufts University Class of 2016 graduate!

The course applies epi concepts to current global disease events in people and animals taking the One Health approach. It serves nicely as a supplement to regular veterinary studies, especially for those interested in international veterinary medicine, public health, and epidemiology.

OSU CVM Responds to 2020 Wildfire Emergency 

Please join us in recognizing the amazing efforts of the Oregon State University Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine during this difficult time.  They have gone above and beyond to aid wildlife that have been injured as a result of the major wildfires ravaging the western United States.

An incredible team of people at the Oregon State University Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine have been working extremely hard to launch a veterinary wildfire response team to serve local emergency response locations at Benton County Events Center and Fairgrounds, Linn County Expo Center and Oregon State Fair and Exposition Center. Additionally, CCVM is also providing hospitalized care to large or small animals injured or ill as a result of the wildfires and evacuation endeavors. Faculty continues to be available to provide consultation related to emergency and critical care for these animals as well. More than 110 CCVM veterinarians, technicians, staff and students have volunteered in these efforts.

Vet Candy Highlights 'Mindful Hypnotherapy' as a Means to Relieve Stress in Recent Baylor University Study 

Mindfulness combined with hypnotherapy aids highly stressed people, study finds.

A new treatment for stress which combines mindfulness with hypnotherapy has shown positive results in a Baylor University pilot study.

The intervention is called "mindful hypnotherapy."

"Mindfulness is a type of meditation that involves focusing attention on present moment awareness. It can help people cope with stress, but can require months of practice and training," said researcher Gary Elkins, Ph.D., director of the Mind-Body Medicine Research Laboratory at Baylor University. "Hypnosis also involves focusing attention, but it includes mental imagery, relaxation and suggestions for symptom reduction."
