VIN Topic Rounds

Are you missing out on clinical rotations because of COVID-19? The VIN Student Team has you covered with Tuesday Topic Rounds.  During the month of April, join Emilia Wong Gordon, DVM, DABVP (Shelter Medicine) for 30 minute, case-based sessions on Shelter Medicine every Tuesday at 12ET. Everyone and all levels of experience are welcome. There will be time for Q&A and discussion following. The next session is An Outbreak of Unexplained Feline Vomiting and Diarrhea Associated with Novel Fechavirus on April 13, 2021 at 12 ET.

In this rounds:

• Discuss differential diagnoses for an outbreak of enteric disease in an animal population.
• Apply the fundamentals of outbreak investigation and management for an unknown pathogen.
• Review sanitation and infection control procedures for viral diseases.

Externship: Greensboro Science Center

Greensboro Science Center Veterinary Externship

Over winter break, I had the privilege of externing at the Greensboro Science Center

(GSC), an aquarium, museum, zoo, and treetop adventure park located in Greensboro, North

Carolina. Unfamiliar with Greensboro, I learned about the Greensboro Science Center’s

externship through a Zoom meeting organized by the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians

(AAZV). The meeting was open to veterinary students interested in zoo, wildlife, and aquatic

externships and several representatives from a variety of AZA accredited institutions joined the

call. The discussion was focused on how these institutions have had to adapt their veterinary

externship programs amidst the current pandemic.
